Google Adsense

May 14, 2009

Now after looking at ways i could make money from my organisation. I came across google adsense which is a free site where you can create your own ads and choose what sites to put them on. Now to have them on your YouTube profile, you need to become a youtube partner, however to become one of those you need to have a lot of subscribers, alot of views on your videos and lots of comments. However ET unfortunately hasnt got that yet.

So in the meantime, ill have to put ads on my own website, once its set up anyway. And hopefully make a few pennys from it.

One last purchase

May 14, 2009

Now, none of the webhosts i could find supported filesharing, thats to say, i cant upload files such as software installers, movies, music, images etc. However i can include links on my site to external servers.

Now i did some research into top filesharing sites and came across www.mediafire.com which once again looked the most proffessional. And mediafire offered exactly what i wanted a proffessional account which offers unlimited storage space, max file size of 10g, hotlinks to downloads, which means the download starts as soon as the link to it is clicked, which means the person downloading the file does not need to go to mediefire to download it, they can start the downlaod straight from my site, which is exactly what i wanted.

The pro account is $59 per year, which means after adding on the $41 cost of the domain my $100 budget will be all used up.

ET Website

May 14, 2009

Now that ET has a few more videos posted and gradually more people discover it. I decided A) I need to start my own website for ET, and B) Why not have the opportunity to make money from ET by placing ads on my site.

So first thing i had to do was some research into web hosting, now theres a few sites out there that show the top 10 web hosting sites on the market, so i followed a few links to the top 3 web hosting sites. All 3 looked pretty good, www.fatcow.com www.godaddy.com and www.justhost.com

So i started looking at the pricing of each of these sites and fatcow and godaddy were similar in their pricing, around 39/42 dollars for a one year subscription. However I was first drawn to justhost as their site looked a lot more proffessional, which means alot when buying something on the net. So i got talking to one of the just host staff about purchasing my own domain and discovered they were asking 71 dollars for the exact same deal that fatcow offered for 42.

so instead of telling you the rest of the story, ill upload the chat i had with the lady at justhost

getting my website

and so after a long conversation she offered me a 20% discount, but i still wasnt satisfied so i sent off an email to the billing dept. at justhost

Hi there, i have just had a lovely chat with lindsay in the support department and she has put me on to you guys in order to get a discount on a puschase. I am looking to buy a Domain from you, however i find your prices are too high. I have a $100 budget as i am in year 12 at school and need a website for my major work. However as you guys do not support file sharing on your websites, i needed to invest $59 towards a mediafire pro account.

Now i did some research, and Fat Cow offer the same deal as you guys do for $42 per year, that is $29 cheaper than your offer of $71 per year. Lindsay has offered me 20% off, however that is still $59 per year, now surely you can do me a better deal than that.

I was more looking for a price of $45 per year. Please get back to me asap.

Kind Regards Sol.

And about 2 hours later, their reply email came in, and it shows how a little hard work can go a long way.

heres what came back:Hi Sol,

I can see from our records that you attempted to place an order with Just Host today, but for some reason you ran into difficulties and the order was not completed.

To apologise for any problems you may have experienced, here’s a special link to receive 50% off the usual cost of our unlimited Just Plan!

So to receive Half-Price hosting please go to: http://www.justhost.com/50special?oid=123446&hash=a085b-bf0bc

Now i know it says i get 50% off because apparently my registration failed but i think my stern negotiating skills really persuaded them.

and just look at the new banner at the top of their site…was that all me?

banner 50% off

and that ladies and gentlemen, is how I got my web domain with justhost.com for 50% off!

Setting up experTutorials

April 30, 2009

First things first, before we can start producing turorial videos, we must create a new desktop background firstly to add a nice aesthetic feature to the video and make it look more professional and secondly to avoid any copyright issues that may arise due to use of someone elses image.
